Rainbow Cityscapes Art Project
This is a great project to have in your back pocket as it’s non-seasonal. I pre-cut my strips but you could have students use rulers and cut their own. You can incorporate several elements like line, shape and pattern.
Time required: 30 minutes
Materials:
Black construction paper
Construction paper cut into strips (various colours)
White/grey construction paper (one square per student - for moon)
Glue stick
Scissors
Sharpie
Teacher prep:
I pre-cut my strips using the large paper cutter but you could have students cut their own. I cut them all the same length (along the short side of the paper) but students will cut each strip to their desired length.
Steps:
Choose 8-9 strips for buildings. Depending on thickness, you may need more or less.
Cut out a moon in any size and glue it onto the black background first. It may be fully visible or tucked behind the buildings.
Decide on the pattern of colours and height of each building. Cut buildings to desired height.
Glue the buildings onto the background.
Use the Sharpie to create shapes, lines or patterns on each of the buildings.
