Summer Popsicles Art Project

The end of the school year is near and you know what that means…summer is even nearer!

What’s more summery than bright colours and popsicles?

This is a quick, minimal prep project that is sure to brighten up your bulletin board in June!

Time: 30 minutes + 5 minutes (day two or later that day)

Materials:

  • Tissue paper squares (variety of colours)

  • White glue

  • Water

  • Foam brushes

  • White paper (printer weight is fine)

  • Large popsicle sticks (we use the size of tongue depressors)

  • OPTIONAL - bulletin board letters to colour (template for French & English option below)

  • Scissors

  • Tape

Teacher prep:

Cut tissue paper into squares

Print popsicle shapes onto white paper or make stencils to trace for popsicles.

Procedure:

  • If students are tracing a stencil or drawing their own shape, have them do that on white paper. If you have printed a shape already, hand out sheets.

  • Give each group a small dish of thinned glue (add a bit of water to white glue)

  • Paste the tissue paper onto the shape by spreading the glue mixture onto the paper, placing one square of tissue down and sealing it with another layer of glue. Don’t worry if it goes outside the lines, we’ll be cutting it out after.

  • Fill the entire popsicle with tissue squares. It’s ideal to go outside of the lines so you don’t leave any white patches. You’ll be cutting off the excess so it’s no big deal. Leave to dry.

  • Once the popsicle is dry, cut it out and glue or tape a large popsicle stick to the back.
