Snowy Mitten Art Project

This fun winter project is simple to do and requires no paint! I originally found this idea on Pinterest through a few sources so I’m not sure who the original creator is. You can check out one post here.

Time required: 30-45 minutes

Materials:

  • Blue construction paper

  • White crayon

  • Oil pastels (or crayons as an alternative)

  • Snowflake shape (or can make one by folding and cutting)

  • White acrylic paint, water & large brush to make snow splatter

Steps:

  • Using the white crayon, draw a large mitten shape in the middle of the paper. We want it big enough that the snowflake can sit on it.

    • If they draw it too small for a snowflake to sit on, they can put their snowflake to the side somewhere so that it doesn’t cover the entire mitten. You can see examples of this in the photo above.

  • Inside the mitten, draw several curved lines. Inside each section, create a different design.

  • Once you have the whole mitten outlined, use oil pastels (or crayons) to colour in the mitten.

  • Cut out a snowflake shape either a printed one (I just found one online) or make your own by folding and cutting.

  • Glue the snowflake either on the mitten or off to the side.

  • Mix a bit of white acrylic paint with a tiny bit of water, we just want to loosen it a bit, not make it soupy! Set out some table cloths, newspaper or go outside and dip a large paintbrush into the paint and flick it at the paper to create snow.
