Using Music to Engage Your Students

Curious about how you can incorporate more music into your classroom? I’m a big believer in the power of music and how it affects our students. There is music all throughout the day for my students and it’s all done with purpose. Keep reading for my most used playlists!

*disclaimer: make sure songs are appropriate for your students before playing them in your classroom

Make it instrumental…

Classroom instrumentals is my most used playlist. I refer to it as “working music” and the kids know that it means it’s quiet, independent work. The music is instrumental which brings a calmness to the environment.

Make it French…

Exposing my students to Francophone artists and music is important to me. This playlist is often played during art periods. It gets the creative juices flowing while exposing them to different voices, accents and music styles from around the world.

Make it singable…

Singing plays such an important role in learning a new language. It helps with pronunciation, flow and confidence. This playlist features songs that we sing during our morning routine. I often make up actions to go along with these songs to help with comprehension. I tend to focus on 2-3 songs per month.
