We Love Earth Day Art Project
The blue planet…so beautiful. Earth Day gives us a chance to celebrate our world and this project is perfect for Kindergarten or Grade 1 students. Below you’ll see two display examples. First I arranged them in a heart (including a yarn heart to ensure the shape was seen) and then with a promise to the Earth writing prompt.
Time required:
Earth only - 20 minutes
Earth & writing - 30-40 minutes
Materials:
Card stock
Pencil
Sharpie
Blue and green tempera watercolour paint (I use pucks)
Paintbrush
Promise to the Earth writing page (optional)
Steps:
Choose between giving students a circle tracer or print your Earth shape onto your paper.
Have students draw some “land” with their pencil. I’m not fussed about it looking like the actual continents!
Now trace the land with the sharpie.
Paint the Earth in green and blue. You may want to go over how they would know which sections are which.
Once paint is dry, they can cut out their circle.
If doing a writing/drawing activity, complete that and add it to your display.
Yes, I realize that “Terre” is not capitalized…oh well. I noticed after and in the spirit of not wasting paper, we just ran with it.
